DANCE

GCSE 9-1

AQA

How will this subject benefit me?

Dance is a powerful and expressive subject which will encourage you to develop your creative, physical, emotional and intellectual capacity, whatever your previous experience in the subject.

This course recognises the role of dance in young people’s lives and you will study a range of dance styles and style fusions. Apart from the solo performance, you can choose a fusion of styles in which to perform and choreograph.

The practical component of the course enables students to study dance by ‘doing’. The theoretical study of the anthology of professional works will develop your ability to critically appraise and provide a springboard for engaging in practical tasks.

GCSE Dance students will study a range of dance styles which acknowledge aspects of the repertoire of dance that can be seen in the United Kingdom today.

What will I learn?

Who is this course appropriate for?

This course is suitable for both boys and girls who have some previous dance experience. Most importantly you must love and have a passion for Dance. You will be required to have commitment, enthusiasm, willingness to perform solo or/and in a group with excellent teamwork skills. A high level of commitment is required for GCSE Dance through being involved with extra technique classes, rehearsals and attending dance trips. This specification acknowledges the important role that dance plays in young people’s lives. Whilst many students will bring some previous experience of dance, others will have very little. This specification aims to value and build on whatever experience you have.

What opportunities will this give me?

It will give you the skills to progress onto a qualification and/or career in the performing arts.  You will learn a wealth of transferable skills such as team working, communication, perseverance and problem solving.
