How will this subject benefit me?
The development of children from conception to adulthood is a fascinating journey. This course will allow students to gain an understanding of the development of children from the ages of 0-5 years. The course will assist students in developing their ability to work independently, plan for and undertake activities with children, and apply their knowledge of how children develop to real life nursery settings.
What will I learn?
Students will undertake three units over two year course:
R018: This unit provides an overview of the roles and responsibilities of parenthood, from pre-conception through antenatal to postnatal care. Students develop an appreciation of the importance of creating the best conditions for a child to thrive.
R019: Students learn about the range of equipment and nutritional and hygiene requirements of children from birth to five years, and they demonstrate in a practical activity how these needs are met to promote a child’s development and well-being.
R020: Students investigate the developmental norms of children from birth to five years and develop an understanding of the impact of play on the developmental norms. They apply and demonstrate their knowledge and understanding through practical activities.
Who is this course appropriate for?
Child Development is aimed at students interested in a career involving childcare, from nursery care to nursing, specialising in young children. It is for both boys and girls and offers a fascinating insight for all students with an interested in human behaviour.
How will I be assessed?
healthy and well-being for child development
This unit requires students to take an 1 hour 15 minute examination that is worth 80 marks.
This is worth 50% of the qualification.
understand the equipment and nutritional
This unit is assessed through coursework and challenges learners to consider appropriate equipment for a nursery to use for children of different age ranges. It also discussed the preparation of a bottle of baby formula to understand the nutritional requirements of infants ages 0-6 months.
This is worth 25% of the qualification.
understand the development of a child
This unit is assessed through coursework allows learners to observe and work with a child of this age. Students will plan play activities for a child that helps physical, intellectual or social development.
This is worth 25% of the qualification.
What opportunities will this give me?
The successful completion and achievement of the Level 1/2 Cambridge National Child Development course will provide a solid foundation for further study at Level 3, an apprenticeship in Childcare, Child Development, or Health and Social Care, or anybody who wants to work in a childcare setting in the future.
