This course recognises the role of dance in young people’s lives. The majority of lessons in GCSE Dance are practical in nature with a strong emphasis on performance of both taught movements and choreography. The practical component of the course enables you to study theory dance by ‘doing’. The theory study of modern and 'edgy' professional works will develop your ability to critically appraise and provide a springboard for engaging in practical tasks. It also provides you with transferable skills that will help to prepare you for your future including; creativity, problem-solving, teamwork and confidence!

This course is suitable for anyone with a love and passion for Dance. Whilst many students will bring some previous experience of dance, others will have very little. We aim to value and build on whatever experience you have.
You will be required to have commitment, enthusiasm, willingness to perform solo or/and in a group with excellent teamwork skills. A high level of commitment is required for GCSE Dance through being involved in extra technique classes, rehearsals and attending dance trips.

GCSE Dance students choose dance for the practical rather than theoretical focus. That’s why the written assessment is clear, well-structured and easy for students to understand. Students will enjoy the variety of question styles, which include multiple choice, short and extended answer.
As a GCSE qualification it will provide a stepping stone for going onto studying at 6th Form or College. It will promote your fitness, healthy lifestyle, teamwork and creativity. GCSE Dance will support your English skills, you will learn how to analyse and give your opinion. GCSE Dance will give you the skills to progress onto a qualification and/or career in the performing arts.GCSE Dance will enable you to develop your performance skills enhancing your self-confidence when presenting to others. You will learn a wealth of transferable skills such as team working, communication, perseverance and problem solving.
