This course gives students a real, in-depth understanding of how computer technology works. It offers an insight into what goes on ‘behind the scenes’, including computer programming. Students learn about algorithmic thinking and practise solving problems in creative ways.

Students who have a genuine passion and interest for technology and how it works will do best on this course.
Students who are good logical thinkers and enjoy programming and solving problems will be at an advantage.
Learn the major aspects of Computer Science including Hardware, Software, Networks, Data Representation and Cyber Security. This is a written test with a mixture of short and long answer questions.
Learn how to think like a computer scientist by creating robust programs using programs such as Python. This unit is tested via a written exam where you will face a number of algorithm and programming questions.
This is an independent project where you will have to create and document a solution to a problem. Previous examples have been a music quiz app or basic computer game. This is not examined.
The A Level in Computer Science is offered at MSN Sixth and is the natural pathway for those wanting to continue this journey. Many universities offer Computer Science which can then lead to a huge range of exciting and well paid jobs. The UK is one of the leading countries for innovation in technology. Some of the largest tech leaders are based in the UK so employment opportunities are very strong.
