This exciting course will give pupils a wide range of skills to design and make their own products. Students choose their own area of study from: Art textiles, fashion design and illustration, costume design, constructed textiles, printed and dyed textiles, surface pattern, stitched and embellished textiles, soft furnishings and/ or textiles for interiors, digital textiles, installed textiles. Students may explore overlapping and combinations of areas.
You will learn many invaluable skills under the following headings, many of which are fully transferable into a variety of sixth form courses and/ or future careers.
How sources inspire the development of ideas, including social, cultural, environmental etc.
General responses that address needs such as client expectations
Using textile design techniques and processes such as printing, felting, stitching etc.
Using media and materials to realise student intentions such as inks, yarns, fabrics, digital imagery etc.
This course would be suited for pupils of all abilities who are creative and enjoy making things. Pupils will need to be well organised and passionate in order to achieve high grades with practical and coursework.
A project unique to you, where you follow the creative design process through to making final Textile/ Textile Art, Fashion products etc. There is no time limit for this.

Pupils can study BTEC Fashion and Clothing at sixth form which is equivalent to 1 A level and therefore enables students to progress onto a wide variety of university courses, direct into work or onto apprenticeships. Students are welcome to see examples of upper school work in T2 and/ or speak to Mrs Ayers for more information. This course allows you to pursue any creative/ practical pathway.
