This exciting course will give pupils a wide range of skills to design and make their own 3D models and products. The specification has been designed to allow students to develop knowledge and understanding of artists and designers during the course through a variety of learning experiences and approaches. This will allow them to develop the skills to explore, create and communicate their own ideas. Students will work with a variety of media, tools and equipment including paints, card, clay, plasticine, manufactured board and plastics to develop 3D models and products across the course.
The course includes the design, prototyping and modelling of aesthetic products, objects, and environments, drawing upon research, creative and practical skills.
You will learn many invaluable skills under the following headings, many of which are fully transferable into a variety of sixth form courses and/ or future careers.
How sources inspire the development of ideas, including social, cultural, environmental etc.
Using design techniques and processes such as model making, constructing, surface treatment, assembling, modelling etc.
Using media and materials to realise student intentions such as drawing materials, clay, wood, metal, plaster, plastic and found materials etc.
This course would be suited for pupils of all abilities who are creative and enjoy making things with a range of Art & Design materials. The course focuses on the creative process involved in creating 3D models and products.
Pupils will need to be well organised and passionate in order to achieve high grades with practical and coursework.
Students will complete 3 projects covering architecture, landscape design and Product Design. Students will follow the creative design process including artist research, design and development and the creation of a final 3D piece of work.
A project set by the exam board. Students follow the creative design process through to making a final 3D piece of work.
There is a 10 hour practical exam within this unit.
Pupils can study A Level Product Design and/or Art at sixth form and therefore enables students to progress onto a wide variety of university courses, direct into work or onto apprenticeships.
This course can lead to careers in Art, Architecture, Interior Design, Furniture and Product Design etc.
Students are welcome to see examples of upper school work in T9 and/ or speak to Miss Thomson, Mr Heal or Mr Hann for more information. This course allows you to pursue any creative/ practical pathway.
