The Weekly Fun Fact About Mr. Beard
Yes, that's Mr. Beard with Sal Vulcano from "Impractical Jokers" pictured above. :-)
Did you know that even though she is still only 20 years old, Mr. Beard's daughter is a freelance writer for "Saturday Night Live"? Having won more Emmy Awards than any other show in history, "Saturday Night Live" is a television institution! Mr. Beard's daughter Ally is now a junior at Harvard University. In late 2016, just as she was starting her senior year at nearby Attleboro High School, she applied for a position writing jokes for the "Weekend Update" segment of "Saturday Night Live." Shortly after submitting a packet of jokes to the show's producers, Ally got a call telling her that she got the job! At just 17 years old, she officially became one of the youngest freelancers ever to write jokes for "SNL". See an NBC television news segment detailing Ally's story by clicking the NBC Peacock logo below. (If you look closely, you can see a proud Mr. Beard getting emotional when talking about his daughter.)
Did you know that, despite their age difference, Mr. Beard and Mr. Cummings (who is currently teaching in Costa Rica) actually met quite a long time ago? Mr. Cummings' mother and Mr. Beard went to college together (at Bridgewater State University). One day, Mr. Cummings' mother had some friends over, including Mr. Beard, for lunch. While Mr. Beard and Mr. Cummings' mother sat in the back yard and talked, a middle-school-aged Mr. Cummings swam in the Cummings Family swimming pool. Years later, when Mr. Cummings started working at Norton Middle School, he told his mother that one of his new friends was named Mr. Beard. Mr. Cummings' mother quickly figured out that it was the same Mr. Beard that she knew from college! Small world.
Did you know that Mr. Beard is one of the directors of the Norton Middle School Drama Club (alongside Mrs. Holicker)? After many years without an outlet for young actors, Mr. Beard and Mrs. Holicker were responsible for bringing the Drama Club back to NMS in late 2012. Since then, the NMS Drama Club has staged "Everything But the Kitchen Sink," "Grease," "The Sound of Music," "Rock of Ages," "Beauty & the Beast," "Mary Poppins," "Peter Pan," "Legally Blonde," and "The Wizard of Oz" to rave reviews. If you think the NMS Drama Club sounds fun, see Mr. Beard for details on joining.
Did you know that Mr. Beard's first official year of teaching at Norton Middle School was way back in 2005? His original class was called "Math-Plus." Prior to 2005, Mr. Beard served as Norton Middle School's Math MCAS Specialist (working in the C-Wing in what is now one of Mr. Kramer's Tech Ed rooms) for one year.
Did you know that Mr. Beard holds higher education degrees from three different colleges and universities? He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing from the University of Massachusetts. He also holds a Post-Baccalaureate certificate in Elementary and Secondary Education from Bridgewater State University. In addition, Mr. Beard earned a Master's Degree in Secondary Education from Endicott College. It's important that teachers never stop learning!
