Objectives of the NWS Carbon Neutrality Task Force 2021
As a collaboration among students, faculty, and parents/guardians who expressed interest in this project, and in accountability to the broader Northwest School community--and in particular students, faculty, and families of color--the NWS Carbon Neutrality Task Force’s objectives (to be completed by January 1, 2021) are to:
Develop a comprehensive plan of strategies and actions that would enable The Northwest School to meaningfully achieve carbon neutrality by 2030, in a manner that avoids or limits use of carbon offsets;
Define and set parameters around the term “carbon neutral”
Assess the physical and financial feasibility of such a plan;
Develop recommendations for who would be best situated to carry out this plan;
Determine a method to track progress toward these GHG emissions reduction goals;
Create a detailed timeline for milestones on the path to carbon neutrality by 2030;
Create opportunities for meaningful engagement (input, feedback, and evaluation) for The Northwest School community, and especially for students and faculty of color through the Advancing Equity team and student and faculty affinity groups;
Effectively share the story of this work with our school and broader community to inspire action at other schools and organizations.
