Applying to the Engineering Academy
Applications are currently being accepted for the 2024 - 2025 School Year!
Applicants can be current sophomores who will become our Class of 2026,
as well as current juniors who would attend as first-year seniors joining our Class of 2025.

A visit to the Engineering Academy is part of the application process.
Visits are in the form of:
10th grade visitation - Scheduled by the homeschool on January 31 and February 1
Information Sessions - Contact Michael George, Engineering Academy Instructor, at mgeorge@northwested.org for scheduling. These are evening sessions (6:00 - 7:30 pm) for interested students and families. Thursday, February 15
Tuesday, February 27
Thursday, March 14In-person - During the Engineering Academy school day - coordinated between Michael George, Engineering Academy Instructor, and the homeschool

Introductory Academic Background
All applicants must have successfully completed at least Algebra 1 and Geometry to be considered for admission.
In order for a student to be placed into Honors Physics, Algebra 2 must have been completed before the junior year.
The Engineering Academy will be requesting an official transcript from your homeschool.
Extra-Curricular Activities
Letters of Recommendation
Two letters of recommendation are requested (only one can be from an academic person).
People writing letters must have known the student for at least two years and not be a relative.

commitment Statement
Each applicant should write a statement of why they would like to enroll in the Engineering Academy. Include reasons you believe that you would be successful and specific examples demonstrating you have a positive work ethic.
Interview
Interviews will be conducted by representatives from the Engineering Academy's Manufacturing Council and Advisory Board.
Students will be notified of the interview schedules after contact information, commitment statement, extra-curricular activities, and transcript have been reviewed.
The interview will be held at the Engineering Academy in the North Ed Career Tech facility, 880 Parsons Road, Traverse City.
Interviews last approximately ½ hour, generally during a weekday afternoon.
