Dr. Fariah Mahzabeen is currently an Associate Professor of ECE at North South University, Bangladesh. Before NSU, she was a tenure-track assistant professor at San Jose State University in USA. She also brings in some industry experience from companies like Google, Verily and Meta at Silicon Valley. She completed her MS, PhD and Postdoc in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, USA. Her PhD and postdoctoral research was on designing a biosensor for point-of-care blood diagnostics. This was selected for a NASA grant through which she further developed the biosensor for personalized health monitoring of astronauts. This research entailed a multidisciplinary approach spanning across semiconductor and optical sensor design to biochemical characterization to clinical pilot studies. Dr. Mahzabeen has always been interested in interdisciplinary research ideas in the broader area of digital health, that combines hardware and software across multiple areas of STEM. Her current research projects are designed to engage students to solve challenging and meaningful problems. She is also an endeavoring entrepreneur and loves to be at the intersection of technology and people with a vision to make impactful interdisciplinary innovations that add value to human lives! In her alternate avatar, she is a painter – who loves traveling, movies, fiction and food!
Saif Ahmed is a Lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at North South University, where he teaches Machine Learning and Communication Theory. His research focuses on the intersection of artificial intelligence, data, and intelligent systems, with particular interests in AI applications in medicine, dentistry, and speech analysis. His work has been published in Nature and other Q1 journals, and he has also contributed as a peer reviewer for academic publications. He is particularly interested in developing interpretable and trustworthy AI systems, with an emphasis on understanding model decisions rather than focusing solely on predictive accuracy.
Alongside his academic work, Saif works at Invisible Technologies as a Prompt Engineer, where he contributes to AI-enabled data training systems and evaluates data quality using large language models (LLMs). His industry work involves designing data pipelines, developing and refining prompts, leading teams, and balancing quality, scalability, and efficiency in real-world AI workflows.
He also serves as an IEEE Branch Counselor at North South University, where he organizes technical workshops and mentors students, engineers, and early-career researchers. Outside of academia and technology, he enjoys reading comics, playing video games, and spending time relaxing.
