Dr. Fariah Mahzabeen is currently an assistant professor of ECE at North South University, Bangladesh. Before NSU, she was a tenure-track assistant professor at San Jose State University in USA. She also brings in some industry experience from companies like Google, Verily and Meta at Silicon Valley. She completed her MS, PhD and Postdoc in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, USA. Her PhD and postdoctoral research was on designing a biosensor for point-of-care blood diagnostics. This was selected for a NASA grant through which she further developed the biosensor for personalized health monitoring of astronauts. This research entailed a multidisciplinary approach spanning across semiconductor and optical sensor design to biochemical characterization to clinical pilot studies. Dr. Mahzabeen has always been interested in interdisciplinary research ideas in the broader area of digital health, that combines hardware and software across multiple areas of STEM. Her current research projects are designed to engage students to solve challenging and meaningful problems. She is also an endeavoring entrepreneur and loves to be at the intersection of technology and people with a vision to make impactful interdisciplinary innovations that add value to human lives! In her alternate avatar, she is a painter – who loves traveling, movies, fiction and food!
