There’s no break like summer break, and July and August are perfect months to relax! Enjoy the sunshine, relish the joy of escape, and bolster your imagination by stocking up on your reading material.
For the NSMS Summer Reading Program 2026, we have carefully curated a collection of highly engaging books and organized them by the students’ SY2627 grade levels.
Students are asked to select a book from their SY2627 grade-level list and read it during the summer.
To help them reflect on their thinking and engage with their chosen text, students may complete an optional Goal-Setting and Reflection Guide.
In September, NSMS English teachers will assign a writing task connected to students’ Summer Reading experience -- one that will serve as an important foundation for a yearlong sequence of individualized reading conferences that are designed to help students grow as thoughtful readers, writers, and thinkers.
Please take an active role in your children’s Summer Reading book selection process. To ensure that students select a book that their family is comfortable with, we encourage parents to preview and/or pre-read each of the books carefully. Involvement in your child’s reading choices helps ensure the material aligns with your family’s preferences while also increasing student engagement through a shared learning experience.
Don’t forget to visit the Sea Cliff and Gold Coast Libraries during the summer months! The librarians can provide expert assistance in choosing and accessing hard copies, digital options, and audiobooks of additional books that children love.
We hope our Summer Reading program inspires our students to discover new perspectives, strengthen their reading habits, and enjoy the experience of getting lost in a great book over the summer months.
Happy Reading!
