June 2024
Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,
Summer is a great time to enjoy the pleasure of reading whether at the beach, a park, on vacation, or at home. Recreational reading has positive emotional effects, providing relief from stress, loneliness, or boredom. Reading has academic benefits, as well. Therefore, we recommend that you read for pleasure – to unplug, to relax, and to learn -- for a half hour each day.
For our high school Summer Reading program this year, we have designed a One Book -- One Grade approach to make it easier for you to collaborate with your friends and to share insights in English class in September. In addition, we have curated a menu of engaging books to interest and inspire you for the entire season. When you find books that you care about, you will appreciate the joys of lifelong reading. You may use THIS optional Goal-Setting and Reflection template as a guide..
As you begin your summer break, please visit our NSHS Summer Reading 2024 booklist (HERE) to find your grade-level book. Copies of it are available at the HS Library through the summer, on SORA by Overdrive, and at the Sea Cliff and Gold Coast Libraries. Please visit our NSHS Summer Reading website (HERE) to check out our other recommendations, too! However, if none of our recommendations appeal to you, don’t give up. Just reach out to the librarians to help you find your next great read!
Happy reading!
