Practice Tips
Students are encouraged to practice daily. All students are required to practice a minimum of 15 - 20 minutes a day, three days a week. Beginning students may opt to break practice sessions into two 10 minute periods when they are first beginning and their muscles are developing.
Practicing the same day of a lesson is encouraged as new material will be fresh in minds and easily recalled.
Be focused! Practice in sections! Start in different spots, not always from the beginning!
Have the necessary supplies available! Reed students (clarinet and sax) need to have at least three working reeds in their case at all times. Buy a box of 10 at the beginning of the school year and reorder when they run low! Brass players need valve/slide oil.
Find a quiet, well-lit area free from distractions.
A music stand and a chair that you can sit straight up in provide proper body positioning. This is important because it contributes to proper breath support and playing position.
Practice at the same time every day so practicing becomes a habit!
