NY STATE STANDARDS/CORE CURRICULUM

Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.

Standard 2: Applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics related to movement and performance.

Standard 3: Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness.

Class Policy

Routine (attendance, warm-ups, safety info, skill progressions,game play)

Be in the locker-room/teaching station before the bell. Students may opt to change into PE clothing, leave locker room and move to the attendance area (5 min.)Attendance is taken (class information and introduction)

Go to activity area

Warm-up - stretching & aerobic activity. ~ 10 MIN. each class (more class info.)

Progressive drills, activity of unit, and clean-up (Everyone helps)

Closure: class meets together (feedback and class info.)


Physical Education teachers are NOT responsible for cell phones in class. Students should not be their phone unless instructed to do so.


Course Outline: Elective Program for ALL Grades


4 quarters - 2 units( electives) per quarter - 20 Classes per quarter

Emphasis on Fitness, Recreational, and Lifetime activities

Written Tests and/or skill tests may be conducted for each unit

Each class is worth a maximum of 5 points

Each unit is worth a maximum of 50 points (2 units are added to form quarter grade)

ATTENDANCE- 15 ABSENCES IS MAX- AFTER 15 A STUDENT CAN BE DENIED CREDIT/FAIL- MUST RETAKE THE COURSE


* ALL STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN A FALL FITNESS UNIT FIRST TO START THE YEAR (Elective 1)


GRADES 9-12 - Swimming is offered as an Elective.

Swimming unit, Instructional Swim, Survival skills, and Games/Activities

PLEASE NOTE: Teachers who appear on Grade & Progress Reports may not be actual teacher as a result of your child’s elective choice. Please ask them who their current teacher is for up-to-date information and for parent/teacher conferences.


Grading

BE ON TIME - In locker-room/activity area and present when your name is called for attendance (Bring a pass if you are late!). Promptly report to your area of activity

BE PREPARED - Be properly prepared for physical activity. Students Must be in proper clothing for activity and proper footwear.

  • BE A PARTICIPANT - Be actively involved throughout entire class period.

Absences & Makeup Information

  • Make-up Classes (legal reasons only) Made-up within quarter.

  • Make-ups are offered during 9th period, EVERY TUESDAY (2:15 annex gym)- See Make up Calendar

  • Morning (6:45am annex gym) available every other week on WEDNESDAY

  • Make-ups are fitness related. All swim make-ups are done in the pool.

  • If you are late, not prepared or not fully participating, the make-up does not count!

  • Lack of effort and a poor attitude will result in minus points for that day (-2 pts).

  • Unprepared (U) (-5 points) Proper footwear & clothing is required.

  • * Students will be required to walk during the entire class period *

  • (You are insubordinate if you don’t do what is asked and will receive disciplinary action)

  • Exceeding 15 Absences may result in denial of course credit for the year

  • Illegal Absences (cutting) -5 points from overall unit average

  • (No make-up allowed and you will receive disciplinary action)

  • Late (L) (-1 points each time) 3 lates = 1 absence


Medicals

  • Medicals (M) (if 4 consecutive Phys. Ed. days are missed, a medical assignment / report will be given) A note from a doctor must be on file with the school nurse to be eligible for the medical make-up assignment.

  • Daily article reviews may also be assigned by instructor. 1 article review per class missed.

  • Less than 3 days missed due to Medical- article review per class

              • Assignments may be as follows: (1) daily assignment, (2) Officiate & assist, (3) report

              • Reports may be: related to the injury, unit activity, fitness, or nutrition

*ALL MEDICAL ASSIGNMENTS AND SUSPENSION ASSIGNMENTS ARE POSTED IN THE GOOGLE CLASSROOM*

THE PE department acknowledges educational absences and school related athletic events as an excused absence that does not require a make up. (school related only, not outside groups, teams or organizations)

* DISRESPECT and IMPROPER LANGUAGE are NOT tolerated *


LOCKER ROOM USE

* Security issues do exist! * Help keep your locker room clean *

  • DO NOT bring valuables to be stored in the locker room!

  • If it DOESN'T fit in your locker DO NOT bring it! (Jackets and over-stuffed backpacks MAY NOT fit!) You may have to take books out and stack them.

  • DO NOT share lockers! DO NOT leave anything un-locked in the locker room!

  • Use a COMBINATION LOCK. PUT COMBINATION IN YOUR PHONE/AGENDA

  • REPORT ANY PROBLEMS TO YOUR TEACHER!
