English is the primary language reported in 61% of the homes of children enrolled in NR while 35% indicate that Spanish is their home language. Four percent indicate that they speak a language other than English and Spanish at home. Yet 83% of the students enrolled in our schools were born in the United States, 10% in the Dominican Republic and 6.4% come from other countries of the world.

The English as a New Language Department provides English language development services to prepare English Language Learners (ELL) who can meaningfully and actively engage in learning experiences that lead to college and career readiness upon high school graduation. About 14% of the students in NR are ELLs. To learn more about ENL and Bilingual services, our staff and resources for parents and teachers, click on the respective links on the top right of this page.
