North Elementary works closely with community partners from a variety of industry sectors to obtain feedback on our school’s STEM plan and to enhance STEM experiences for our students. Our community partners are actively engaged and are invited to visit our classrooms, present on careers, and provide enrichment opportunities for 100% of our students. Our STEM partners provide feedback biannually via surveys, email, and phone. This feedback is used to continuously evaluate, develop, and improve our STEM programs. Each year, our students have the opportunity to attend a community career fair. Community members present to students on each career and academic requirements to obtain certification. North Elementary continues to improve opportunities for students beyond the school day. We continue to partner with our community to offer opportunities to students.
Our community partners are essential to helping us inspire and inform our most at-risk and under-represented students about careers in STEM. To further support this, we intentionally selected a rigorous STEM curriculum for use in 100% of our classrooms. Career information and exploration is embedded in every unit from PLTW. Additionally, our classroom teachers actively look for opportunities to partner with the community to incorporate STEM career exploration. This leads to increased student engagement and authenticity. Increased exposure to these opportunities helps us work together with our community partners to ensure that our students are equipped with the skills, experience, and knowledge necessary to be successful in college and careers, which ties into our larger mission and vision for this initiative.
We have reached out to our community partners in both the Spring and Fall of 2020 to provide feedback about our STEM plan. We will continue to ask for this feedback biannually in order to continuously improve our STEM and career readiness standards. Collaboration with these partners occurs on a regular basis. Lists of our community partners have been provided, as well as results from their surveys.
Opportunities to pursue a career in a STEM-related field are vast. These careers are in high-demand and will continue to be in demand in the future. North Elementary wants to help students understand how their interest in STEM fields can translate into a STEM career. Evidence is provided through lesson plan examples and field trip experiences.
Evidence for this indicator has been attached to provide descriptions of our community partners and how they are involved in our STEM program at North Elementary. Our community partners play a major role in helping drive our STEM curriculum for our students to prepare them for a career in the 21st century.

North Elementary is committed to providing equitable access to STEM learning opportunities for our students. In response to industry need and feedback from our community partners, we have increasingly focused our school learning culture on career exploration. In order to accomplish this, we intentionally work to inspire and inform all of our students about careers in STEM - especially with regards to our underrepresented students. Although career exploration is included in lesson planning, it is also posted throughout the building. This evidence provides pictures of posters throughout our building showcasing STEM careers.
