Greetings everyone! My name is Tom Murray and I am the Agriculture Education Instructor/ FFA Advisor at North-Linn High School. I am proud to say this is my 28th year at North-Linn High School and 27th overall. Having grown up on a 120 acre farm which maximized productivity by raising "traditional row crops", registered Black Angus cattle, and registered Hampshire hogs, my strengths lie in animal science, plant science, agricultural marketing, and horticulture. We are fortunate at North-Linn to have a spacious, climate controlled greenhouse which allows us to produce Giant Malaysian Freshwater Prawn, American Alligators, aeroponically grown plants, and a multitude of perennial flowers. Furthermore, we are now happy to have an applied agricultural science and mathematics building which will further maximize student opportunities not only in agriculture but in mathematics, business education, industrial education, and business education among others. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, feel free to contact me via email or telephone at tmurray@northlinncsd.org or (319) 239-4490 Extension 1263 respectively.
In terms of a teaching philosophy, I have two primary expectations for my classes. Those two include coming to class with a positive attitude and working hard. These are ideals that I have had since my time at Iowa State University from 1990-1994. I feel every student has the ability to learn; we simply need the desire to learn. Also, in terms of classes, I feel that parents and students alike should be aware that we offer articulated classes through Kirkwood as well as a dual credit course in global positioning systems.
As far as miscellaneous items, although an Iowa State graduation, I am a HUGE Iowa fan and enjoy watching Iowa basketball and football games. In my previous years as a teacher, I taught at Missouri Valley, West Harrison, and Aplington-Parkersburg High Schools. At West Harrison, I served as an assistant wrestling coach while serving as a head wrestling coach for four years at Aplington-Parkersburg.
