WHY JOIN CERT?
CERT gives you practical skills you can use at home, during everyday disruptions, and in major emergencies. You’ll learn how to protect yourself, help others safely, understand local hazards, and work as part of a team. You’ll also meet people who care about preparedness and making North Lincoln County stronger.
HOW TO JOIN CERT
1. Attend a Meeting
You are welcome at our meetings right away, even before you are fully trained. Meetings are held in person and online through Google Meet, and recordings are available afterward. Most meetings include practical training, local hazard information, demonstrations, and updates from our emergency partners.
2. Begin Your Training
CERT training is easy to start and you can move at your own pace. Begin with the online CERT Basic Training course, then build confidence with hands-on practice and in-person training when available.

Our next in-person CERT Basic Training is planned for Spring 2027 at NLFR Station 16 (St. Clair), behind Otis Cafe. Pre-registration is required through Oregon Coast Community College’s Community Education program. Registration information is typically available in late February or early March.
3. Participate in the Mock Disaster Drill
3. Participate in the Mock Disaster Drill
After you complete your training, you’ll take part in a mock disaster exercise with other trainees and experienced CERT members. It’s a safe way to practice what you learned, see how the team works together, and build confidence before a real emergency.
4. Submit Your Application

You can complete your CERT application at any time after deciding to join. After your training and mock disaster exercise are complete, the Sheriff’s Department and Emergency Management will process your application. Once everything is approved, you’ll receive instructions for picking up your CERT gear and official ID.
