My name is Julie Westcott, and I hold licenses in Regular Education (grades 1-8), Social Studies, Cross-Categorical Special Education, and Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD). I earned my Master of Arts degree in Education and my Director of Pupil Services/Special Education license (5080) from Wisconsin Lutheran College.
In 2020, I was certified as a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Specialist by CERI (Center for Reading Instruction). I am passionate about working with struggling readers and integrating structured literacy, an explicit and systematic method for teaching literacy. This method, based on the Science of Reading (SoR), has proven beneficial for all learners.
I have two children: Hannah (30), who has a Master's degree in Family and Marriage Therapy, and Peyton (25), a Physician Assistant with a Doctorate from Butler University. Our family also includes some feline companions: Murphy, Tank, Alfie, Simon (our blind boy), Pogo (3 legs), and Mika. In my free time, I enjoy gardening, cooking, HotWorx workouts, and family vacations.
I am particularly motivated by the opportunity to build and foster relationships with the students I am fortunate to work with. Each year brings a new adventure, and I eagerly anticipate helping your children on their journey at North Lake and beyond!
