New Teacher Induction
Linked to teacher and principal evaluation, the New Jersey Department of Education launched student growth objectives (SGOs), used as a key instrument in measuring progress in teaching and learning. Teachers develop annual SGOs based on a particular curricular, classroom, or student context - 2 each year for all non-tested areas and 1 each year for tested areas (grades 4-8, language arts and mathematics). These goals are intended to be specific, targeted, and measurable, and teachers conceive their SGOs after assessing their student population and curricular goals from the onset of the school year. Principals are responsible for approving and supervising teachers in the plans set forth to meet individual teacher SGOs. This document contains pertinent information related to the development of SGOs, including guidelines and model objectives.
This SGO Manual is designed to serve as a resource for Quad District staff. It is not intended to supplant guidelines, directions, or deadlines established by building leadership. When in doubt, consult your building administrators for clarification on any of the information presented in this resource.Â
