North Eleven (Trinidad and Tobago) and the Hairouna Film Festival (St. Vincent and the Grenadines) are collaborating on a free workshop to develop the St Vincent and the Grenadines animation sector by nurturing new animators with training and the opportunity to exhibit new work focusing on environmental care and fostering peace.

Driven to increase the contribution of Caribbean animated stories for regional and international edutainment, this project by North Eleven (NE) in collaboration with the Hairouna Film Festival (HFF) uses a practical approach to animation and storytelling. The goal is to nurture a group of new animators in St Vincent and the Grenadines. They will develop lifelong skills in story development, a combination of digital and traditional animation techniques in a hands-on model, resulting in new animations to screen in the Caribbean. The animations will be submitted to regional and international film festivals and distribution outlets. Themes of the animations will focus on environmental care and fostering peace.

Individuals 18 years or older;
Based in St Vincent and the Grenadines;
Computer literate;
Access to a reliable internet connection;
Reliable access to a fully functional computer with webcam, speakers and a microphone;
Comfortable with Google Workspace tools: Meet, Drive, Slides, Docs, etc;
Able to follow English-language instruction;
Availability to participate in workshops on weekday evenings and weekends from 2 July to 15 August 2025, the programme continues to 15 September 2025.
Weeks 1 - 3: Foundations and Pre-Production (virtual)
This phase focuses on the basic understanding of animation principles, stop motion techniques, and the essential steps of pre-production. This includes:
Animation history and principles.
Exploring different types of stop motion animation.
Developing story and script writing skills.
Creating storyboards and pre-visualisation.
Thematic engagement: environmental care and peace.
Week 4: Production and Animation Construction (in-person)
This phase focuses on the practical aspects of creating the physical elements of the animation, including:
Set design and location scouting.
Materials for crafting characters and props.
DIY and professional options for rigs and stages.
Weeks 5 - 6: Post-Production and Refinement (virtual)
This phase centres on the post-production process, including:
Visual Effects (VFX) techniques.
Sound design and multimedia integration.
Completing stop motion short film project.
A short animation
Hands-on experience with digital and traditional animation techniques
Film festival exposure
Expanded network in the Caribbean creative sector
