SAIL Web: Adding Opportunities

In the previous activity you identified two powerful learning experiences and considered the impact of those experiences on your growth and development. These are just a few of the countless learning experiences you will have throughout your life. Taking all of these experiences into account at the same time could be overwhelming, if not impossible, to do on your own. SAIL's web and mobile app tools are designed to help you:

• Document past and present experiences
• Periodically take a moment to record thoughts on experiences
• Visualize the scope, intensity, and patterns of our experiences
• Set goals for the future

For this exercise you will enter one of the life experiences from the Seeing SAIL in Past Experiences into SAIL. Please have that document on hand.

To access the SAIL web application, login to https://integrate.sail.northeastern.edu with your Northeastern username and password.

Within SAIL, experiences are called "opportunities." If you are enrolled in classes, you will see those already noted on your timeline in the opportunities row. There are many things you can add to SAIL for yourself, such as "moments" to document thoughts about your experiences, and "goals" for the future. But for the time being let's focus on entering one of your opportunities (experiences) to SAIL.

Before you start working in SAIL Web, please view the video below that explains how to enter an opportunity into SAIL.

After you have viewed the video above you will be ready to enter an experience as an "opportunity" in SAIL. Fortunately, you already began to map your experience to the SAIL framework in the Seeing SAIL in Previous Experiences activity! Open that file so you can refer to it as you enter one of your experiences as an opportunity in SAIL Web.

After logging into SAIL, click the + button just below the timeline, select Create Opportunity, enter the Opportunity Details, and click "Next." Map your experience to SAIL. At this point you might find it useful to revisit the SAIL dimensions and glossary documents from the previous activity to refresh your memory on what these terms mean.

The process of entering the Opportunity is also a process of thinking more deeply about the meaning and impact of the experience on your development. Please know that, unless you unlock the opportunity (using the lock icon in the top right), that opportunity will only be able to be viewed by you.

When you have finished entering your opportunity please note that it has been added to your timeline. You can click on the opportunity in the timeline to access details.

After you have completed this exercise, go to the "SAIL Web: Adding Moments" section of this site to add a Moment.
