Showquest 2023 – Second Performance Success
Our second performance at Showquest 2023 was an unforgettable milestone for Northcote College’s Performing Arts team. With months of preparation, creative collaboration, and student-led passion, our team delivered a dynamic and emotionally powerful performance that stood out on the national stage.
We were honoured to receive two prestigious awards that celebrated the excellence of our work:
Best Live Music – This award recognises the outstanding talent and energy of our student musicians, who performed live throughout the show. Their music didn’t just accompany the performance — it elevated the entire story and added a professional level of atmosphere and emotion to the stage.
Highly Commended for Costume & Enhancement – This commendation highlights the incredible effort and creativity poured into the visual design of our piece. From custom-made costumes to thoughtful props and enhancements, our visual storytelling brought the performance to life in a bold and memorable way.
These awards are a testament to the dedication of our performers, musicians, tech crew, designers, and student leaders who worked tirelessly to bring the vision to life. Showquest continues to be a platform where our students shine, and we are so proud of what they have achieved.

Ngā Toi Whakaari o Onewa's performance for 2022 was titled Reminiscent Reclining. The performance champions the power of memory.
Synopsis: When the elderly residents of a retirement village are forced into isolation amidst Aotearoa's Covid-19 Lockdown, they find themselves alone and disconnected. The kindness of a nurse, a true frontline hero, allows the residents to recount their most treasured memories. They each have a taonga which unlocks their memory and enables them to slip, briefly, into their past. The act or reminiscing allows them a little much needed escape. Their past nurtures their present. This is a celebration of memory and the importance of connection.
