Lettering Requirements 

For a swimmer to earn a letter, they must accomplish one of the following requirements:

Physical and Medical Forms

All medical forms are due by the first day of practice.  The forms can be found online with the athletic department.


Scoring

Scoring is for the team with points awarded by finish place in each event.  Point values are: 


Individual Events : 1st - 6 points 2nd - 4 points 3rd - 3 points 4th - 2 points 5th - 1 point

Relay Events: 1st - 8 points 2nd - 4 points 3rd - 2 points



Swimming Terms
Blocks

The starting platforms located behind each lane. Minimum water depth for use of starting blocks is 4 feet. Blocks have a variety of designs and can be permanent or removable.


Deck

The area around the swimming pool reserved for swimmers, officials, and coaches.


Disqualified or DQ

A swimmer's performance is not counted because of a rules infraction.


False Start

When a swimmer leaves the starting block before the horn or gun.


Heats

All of the swimmers entered in the event are divided into heats, or groups of swimmers.


IM

Individual Medley. A swimming event using all four of the competitive strokes on consecutive lengths of the race. The order must be: Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Freestyle. Equal distances must be swam of each stroke.


Seed

Assign the swimmers heats and lanes according to their submitted or preliminary times.


Taper

The resting phase of a swimmer at the end of the season before the championship meet.


Touch Pad

The removable plate (on the end of pools) that is connected to an automatic timing system. A swimmer must properly touch the touchpad to register an official time in a race.



Travel To/From Swim Meets

For all AWAY meets, the school will provide transportation to and from the meet location.  The swimmers/divers will meet at the high school at the designated time for transportation to the meet.

Yard signs are $10 and will be available for purchase at Meet the Team night.
