The art room is a fun and colorful place to be, where mistakes can only turn into opportunity! Here, students are encouraged to express themselves and enjoy learning new methods and techniques with tons of supplies and materials. We use anything from paper and pencil to watercolors, tempera paint, chalk, oil pastels, crayon, marker, ink, color pencils, cardboard, clay, paper mache, tissue paper, scratch boards, and so much more. Each student has their own sketchbook that they work in if they finish a project early, and they will take the book home at the end of fifth grade. The main art styles that we focus on include Abstract, Pointillism, Pop Art, Cubism, Optical Art, Realism, Expressionism, Surrealism, and Impressionism. We learn about these art styles and the artists from those time periods by working in drawing, painting, printmaking, hand building, ceramics, collage, weaving, and more. All of my lessons are based around North Branford's K-12 art curriculum and the Connecticut State Standards for Visual Arts, as well as the Elements of Art and Principles of Design.
