Beyond the Classroom
In North Andover, we believe that learning can take place beyond the walls of a classroom!
What is the Beyond the Classroom Project?
- Superintendent's Snow Day Challenges
- Beyond the Classroom Days (distance learning) to replace additional cancelled school days beyond what is built into the school calendar
- Kindergarten welcome information and materials on literacy and math
- Bedtime Math
- Summer Reading Challenges
Beyond the Classroom Days
Last year, the North Andover School Committee approved the use of Beyond the Classroom Days for school cancellations. What does this mean? It means that if we use up the three built-in "snow days" in our school calendar, students will complete an assignment at home in lieu of making up the cancelled day in June. As you might remember, in 2017-18 our students didn’t finish the school year until June 27th! Beyond the Classroom Days prevents this from happening again.
So, what happens when school is cancelled?
First Three Days
For the first three cancelled days, no alternative school work needs to be completed. Instead, students are invited to participate in the Superintendent's Snow Day Challenge!
Fourth Cancelled Day and Beyond...
If school needs to be cancelled more than a total of three times, students will be assigned work to complete instead of making up the fourth day. These assignments can be found by visiting the Beyond the Classroom Days webpage. Assignments will NOT be due the day students return to school. Instead, students will have at least 1 week to complete the assignment.
