Construction of the Amazon facility in North Andover is currently underway and is scheduled to be complete by summer of 2023. Whiting-Turner was selected by Hillwood as the general contractor for this project. Below are updates (in bulleted note form), photos, and videos provided by the general contractor to keep the Town and public apprised of how the project is progressing.
Some fun facts:
There are 6,420 aggregate piers that create the ground improvement system for all foundations for the superstructure
These aggregate piers consist of 16,000 tons of 3/4” aggregate stone
There are 628 footings that sit on these aggregate piers to support the superstructure
These footings consist of approximately 30,000 cubic yards of concrete
There are roughly 4.5 miles of site drainage piping being installed on the site
There are roughly 1.5 miles of sedimentation and erosion control measures on the site
There are roughly 1.5 miles of new forced sewer mains being installed on the site
There are 13,536 solar panels installed on the project
There are roughly 1.75 miles of new fire protection water loops that are being installed on the project

Ongoing with punchlist work
Curb and jointing repairs
Work is ongoing on the drainage of the south parking lot.
There are ongoing conversations on landscaping. Some conifers will be replaced in September
Rye seed has been placed and everything is fairly stabilized.
Meadow mix see will take one year to germinate
Offsite Road Improvements:
Road drainage and underground electrical work is ongoing
Traffic crossings are being installed
Box outs are being placed in the gravel and binder road layers
Lot B:
Continuing with hardscape installation
Curbs and sidewalks are being installed
Continuing with planting and hydroseeding
Concrete, steel and roofing is wrapping up
Security and telecom work is just getting started
Buildings #80-#83 demolition will be scheduled in August
June 30, 2022:
Lot A:
The hydrant remediation work at the southwest pond was accepted by NAFD.
Offsite Improvements:
Drainage and widening work is ongoing.
Lot B:
Paving is expected to start early July.
Planting install in the east lot is nearly complete.
Plantings in upper zones of the wet pond will start next week.
Structural steel is complete.
Stair E/F/G/H install is ongoing.
Bump C concrete is scheduled for next week.
Metal panel install is expected to be close to complete by the end of the month.
Fencing install is nearly complete on level 2. Layout is ongoing on level 3. There will be leave outs in the fence for access.
June 16, 2022:
Lot A:
Started the work in the pond behind Bldg. #20 – grading and seeding
Offsite Improvements:
Road work is continuing with Revoli
Lot B:
Working on curbs and islands
Expect to be paving the last week of June
Will pump down the wet pond next week and evaluate the silt and schedule the plantings.
Structural steel is complete
Installing the canopy steel and the shelter foundations
Miscellaneous stairs and exterior stairs are being installed
Roofing is being wrapped up in Bump C
Fencing is being installed on the 2nd and 3rd floors
Hardscape is continuing
The 2 Line ramp is being poured today
May 19, 2022:
Lot A:
Majority of the work is done
Continuing with areaway work, flashing, carpentry, cleaning up drainage and reseeding and minor repairs
Lot B:
Cleaning up additional area to receive asphalt binder on the north side
Batch plant has been removed and that area is scheduled for paving
Southeast site dolly pads are continuing
Precast is being painted on the south side and will continue on the east and west sides concurrently
Steel – 98% complete; Detailing – 90% complete, mostly misc. metals are left; Bump C is being detailed; Precast – 95% complete
Sprinkler work: Ground floor – 75%; 2nd floor – 75%; 3rd floor – 70%; 4th floor – 68%; 5th floor – 60%.
Fire alarm infrastructure: Ground floor – 30-35%; 2nd floor – 30-35%; 3rd floor – 25%; 4th floor – 20%; 5th floor – 20%.
April 14, 2022:
Lot A:
Elevator work has resumed in Bldg. #20
Irrigation system is tied in
Maintenance will begin on the plantings and rain gardens
General clean up around the site and in the building
Lot B:
Steel erection is 99% complete; detailing 90-92% complete
Bump B is complete with precast
Roofing is 95% complete and they will move to installation on the low roofs. Some remedial work is happening on the East Bump
Precast is 78% complete – currently working on the west side then to the Pump House and Guard House
Bypass work today will be completed to make all 11 fire hydrants live. The one hydrant turned off to make the connection will be turned back on today.
March 15, 2022:
Lot A:
North and South parking lots are complete; fencing and guardrail work continuing
Lot B:
Steel – 98% - minor detailing and installing the west bumps
Steel detailing – 88%; Precast – 75%; Roof -90%
Sprinkler piping – 60% in areas that are available
Interior platforms are continuing
Currently finishing slabs; batch plant will be demobilized in April in order to complete sitework
Demarc room is complete and ready for Verizon
Domestic Water was turned on today into the building
Grading around the building so that sidewalks can begin in the Spring
Pads for generator pad and water service pad is in the works
