Planning your Digital Breakout

Planning out your Digital Breakout is important to a successful breakout lesson in your classroom.

Digital Breakouts: Planning Page

Here is an example of a planning page that can be helpful in organizing your content and lock ideas. You do NOT have access to edit this page. You will need to make a COPY in order to have your own planning page. Be sure to save it as something you will remember.

At this stage, you can also begin to brainstorm ideas a of how you will present your information on your Breakout Site. Will you be using Google Drawings, Google Sheets, other websites?

You can note what you might use for each lock/clue but be flexible with changes as you begin creating.

Building the LOCK: Google Forms

When creating the Google Form...

  1. Make sure each question that is a lock is required.
  2. Use Data Validation on each lock/question.
  3. Put in an error phrase in data validation ("TRY AGAIN", "STILL LOCKED").
  4. Remind students to use CAPITAL LETTERS when answering in the Google Form.
  5. Explain how to format the date lock.
  6. Explain color locks, directional locks, etc.
  7. Put the reward/certificate/surprise in the submission response message.
