You will need 8 larger straws, tape and scissors.
Cut the 8 straws so they are all different lengths. Don’t make them too short!
Place the straws in a line with the longest on the left and the shortest on the right.
Carefully tape the straws together.
Blow into the top of the straws, use soft air to get a nice sound.
What do you notice about the long straws sound compared to the shorter straws?
Take clean empty jar. I used an empty peanut butter jar. You can use a toilet paper tube too!
Decorate how you wish. I used paints. You can use glue and paper or other supplies you have at home.
Once everything is dry place some kind of noise making material. I used popcorn, you can use dry rice, beans, sand, or other small rocks.
Make sure it is tightly sealed and give it a shake.
Experiment with this shaker and see if using a different kind jar will change the sound. Does changing the sound maker on the inside also change the sound of the instrument? Use this shaker and keep a steady beat like we did in class to some of your favorite songs.
Chose an activity or two in a day, see how many you can do!
