You learned earlier in the presentation that there are multiple “Action Plan” projects which were recently completed, are currently underway, or are imminently planned in the Central Business District. These projects are designed to make the city safer and more conducive to community interaction. Here is a list of the eight (8) “Action Plan” projects mentioned today:
Natural Heritage Mural in the Greenville “FUN”nel
Restoration of Train Depot Sign
Installation of bike racks for 16
Installation of 4 new lighting systems on Washington Ave.
Restoration of the Welcome to Greenville Mural on the levee
Purchase of Brownfield site (806 Washington Ave.)
City wide cleanup (4 tons of trash removal)
Restoration of farmer’s market garden along with signage.
With reference to these “Action Plan” items, each group member should answer the related questions:
A. Were you aware of “Action Plan” item 1-8: Natural Heritage Mural in the Greenville “FUN”nel, etc...
B. In your opinion, will this improvement make the CBD feel SAFER? Why or why not?
C. In your opinion, will this improvement make the CBD more CONDUCIVE TO COMMUNITY INTERACTION? Why or why not?
(Please repeat the above series of questions for “Action Plan” items 1-8)
D. Which “Action Plan” item do you think will have the greatest positive effect on CRIME in the CBD?
E. Which “Action Plan” item will have the greatest positive effect on COMMUNITY INTERACTION in the CBD?
Each group member is instructed to do the below tasks and answer the related questions:
A. Using the GREEN marker, Draw a TRIANGLE on the map identifying your favorite OUTDOOR place, space, or asset within the Central Business District.
B. Discuss with your group members why this space is important to you. Group members take note of what features about the place are mentioned and write these down.
C. Did any of the group members share the same space? Were the reasons for preferring it similar?
D. Does this space feel safe? Why or why not?
E. What would make this space feel safer?
Each group member is instructed to do the below tasks and answer the related questions:
A. Using the BLUE marker, Draw a CIRCLE on the map identifying an OUTDOOR place, space, or asset within the Central Business District that presents the greatest opportunity for improvement.
B. Discuss with your group members specific ways this space could be improved. Group members take note of what features about the place are mentioned and write these down.
C. Did any of the group members share the same space? Were the reasons for identifying it similar?
D. Does this space feel safe? Why or why not?
E. What would make this space feel safer?
Each group member is instructed to do the below tasks and answer the related questions:
A. You learned in the earlier presentation that there are 6 new SkyCops planned for the CBD. Using the RED marker, Draw six (6) DIAMONDS on the map identifying the six (6) preferred locations where you would like to see the SkyCops installed.
B. Discuss with your group members why you selected these locations. Group members take note of what features about the place are mentioned and write these down.
C. Did any of the group members share the same space recommendations? Were the reasons for identifying the locations similar?
D. Do these spaces feel safe? Why or why not?
E. Besides the presence of a SkyCop, what would make these spaces feel safer?
