English Twelve

Course Outline

Welcome to your final year of high school English! Throughout this course we will practice the skills you will need to be successful once you have graduated. We will focus specifically on reading, writing, and verbal communication practice to best equip you to be successful. Most importantly, we will work together to complete fun and meaningful activities in the classroom!

I. MATERIALS

Please come to class each day prepared with the following materials:

Current Reading Material Loose-Leaf Paper

Binder (2-inch) Agenda

Pens/Pencils Homework

II. ORGANIZATION

A. Organization is essential in order to be successful this year! Therefore, you are required to keep a well-maintained binder dedicated completely to English Twelve. It should be divided into five sections:

College and Career. To begin the year we will work on developing various documents that you will need as you enter college or the workforce. Keeping track of these materials is essential, and they will be revisited regularly throughout the year.

Literature Notes. All literature-based notes, handouts, short writing assignments, quizzes, and exams relating to any unit of study throughout this class must be included in this section.

Vocabulary. Keep all notes from our academic vocabulary study in this section. A vocabulary list will also be provided with each unit of study. These lists and any vocabulary quizzes should be kept in this section.

Daily Journal. At the beginning of each class a journal prompt will be given. Each entry should include the question/topic as well as a response. A response must be a minimum length of THREE sentences. These will be graded both for content and completion. Each completed journal will count toward your classwork grade.

Miscellaneous. Keep all other papers that do not fall within these categories in this section. These papers will likely be sorted at a later date, or discarded at some point. Don’t throw anything away until instructed to do so!!

III. HOMEWORK

A. Homework should be completed in a timely manner when assigned. All homework assignments must be handed in or presented during the next day’s class, or on the specified due date.
