General Academic Resources:

Academic Books, Databases, Search Engines and Citations

Always sign-in to Google using your NNPS email address (first.last@nnschools.org) and password (student number) before starting your research.

Follett Sign-in information:

Username: first.last name Password: student number

  • Search using a keyword.

  • Click on on the tabs for books and more!

  • Use the Follett Destiny BOOK TAB search to peruse Warwick High School's print book catalog. Reserve a book by selecting "hold" and pick up your book on Thursdays from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM at the bus parking lot.

*Use Sweet Search (instead of Google) to search through filtered, school-related websites.

EBSCO:

  • Click on the link.

  • Scroll down to EBSCO ebooks.

  • Search using a keyword.

*Use Access Follett to check out books and access databases from the Warwick Library. Place a book on hold to check it out. Username: first.lastname Password: student number

Academic Journal Articles

JSTOR: If you've never used JSTOR in any of your classes before, please register for an account using your Newport News Public Schools email address. You have access to 100 articles per month until 06/30/2021.

ERIC and DOAJ do not require sign-in information. *ERIC: make sure the "Full Text Available on ERIC" and "Peer-Reviewed Only" filters are selected​

Explora, Proquest and Gale PowerSearch HAVE TO BE ACCESSED FROM THE DISTRICT-GENERATED LIBARY PAGE; these sites are paid for by NNPS. Sign in to Google using your NNPS email address (first.lastname@nnschools.org) and password (student number) if you cannot access the link on the WHS Library Page. Click on each image below to take you the WHS Library Page. Once there, find the site you are looking for and click on it.

  1. Explora: After searching for your topic, look on the left hand side of the page and select the source type . These are the options that you have to choose from: magazines, current events, videos, biographies, academic eBooks, encyclopedia articles, academic journals (articles), news, reports and primary source documents.

  2. Proquest SIRS: Click on Advanced Search. Choose a source type: newspapers, magazines, images, books, web resources, government sources, scholarly journals and other sources. Type your topic in the search bar and click on the magnifying glass to search.

  3. Gale PowerSearch: Use an Advanced Search to filter for books, academic journals, videos, magazines, news, and images.




Public Library Access

*International Baccalaureate (IB) students have access to Christopher Newport University's library catalog and databases. However, all virtual databases MUST be accessed on Christopher Newport University's campus.

* Use your NNPS email address (first.last@nnschools.org) and password (student number) to sign-in to SORA. SORA can be linked with a public library card to access a wider collection of print books and ebooks.

*If you do not have a public library card, NNPL has created a student membership for you! To access these resources, click on the NNPL image. Click on Stream and Download. On this page you will find links for eAudiobooks, ebooks, eMagazines, Video Streaming Apps, Music and Virtual Program Classes. Click on ebooks. Under New to Our Overdrive Collection, click on Overdrive. In the right hand corner, click on Sign In and enter your student number where your library card number is requested. Next, click on search and type in the book you are looking for. Always remember that when you are asked to enter your library card number, enter your student number, even if you are asked to register or create an account.
