AP Calculus AB

Dear Calculus Student,

The course work in this class is equivalent to a college course in Calculus 1 and therefore will require a great deal of time and effort. The following are some helpful hints:

  • Be prepared daily
  • Study and review on a nightly basis
  • Take good notes and use them to assist you while doing homework and studying for tests & quizzes
  • Be organized!!!!!
  • Complete all assignments on time. Do NOT get behind!
  • Show all work at all times - have integrity!
  • Be an active learner - ask questions and express concerns
  • See me for extra help whenever you feel it is needed
  • Use your calculator as an aid and not a crutch
  • Have fun, work hard, and be successful!!!!!

***AP Exam – The AP exam will be in May (during the school week) with a mock AP exam on a Saturday in March.

It is important for you to review the Algebra and Trigonometry skills you have previously learned to tackle new problems in your study of Calculus. The more you review the better prepared you will be. Trigonometry values are very important and the most important are found in the unit circle. Whether you decide to memorize the unit circle or find a way to become adept at finding the values through triangles does not matter. What matters is that you can evaluate trig functions such as sin 30˚ quickly and efficiently. Reviewing and re-memorizing the Trig. Identities is also important. You should have a formula sheet from math analysis to help you remember all you need to have memorized.

A good website to help you review these topics is http://www.jamesrahn.com/homepages/precalculus_review.htm. I am available for questions through e-mail at: leeza.marello@nn.k12.va.us

Calculus is both a challenging and rewarding course, and I am looking forward to working with you to achieve success. Please feel free to send me an e-mail with any questions you might have.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Marello
