You are students and scholars first! This means all homework and classwork must be completed. No student may participate in the dance team who has D's or F's in any subject.
You are leaders and role models. The fifth grade dance team is a privilege and we can't have anyone up on that stage who is not a role model throughout the school. This means you are following ROAR guidelines at all times - in class, on the bus, at recess/lunch, and during resource. Think of EVERY adult in the building as your teacher - if they tell you to fix something, make it happen.
Try not to miss school! Of course, don't come if you are not feeling well, but please make sure you are at school (and at practices) every day that you can be.
Practice, practice, practice! This show will only be as good as you make it! This might mean choosing to use some of your free time (during recess, at home, etc) to practice what we have learned. Work together with other dance team members to get better.
Please do not chew gum or eat while we're practicing. You can (and should!) drink water to stay hydrated.
WHY?
It's a safety issue - I don't want anyone to choke! It also distracts us from practice. Food is not allowed in the gym.
Give your FULL effort every time, unless I tell you we're "marking" or using less energy. Ask questions, ask me to demonstrate, or ask me to explain something differently if it doesn't make sense. WHY? This helps me see if a move is going to look good or not, and shows me who might need me to explain things better.
Be positive! No negative comments about yourself or others. This includes saying you can't do it! If there is a move you are uncomfortable with for any reason, tell me.
WHY?
What you say is what your brain will believe. Negativity also keeps us from having a safe place for people to try new things.
Use the Compliment Sandwich if someone asks you for feedback. Compliment something they are doing well, politely help correct something they may need to improve, and then compliment again when they improve!
WHY?
This makes it easier for people to listen to feedback and corrections without feeling upset.
This is the walkthrough of the first section of the dance - from the beginning through the first "for you" section.
This is the walkthrough of the second section, from the end of one set of "for you"s to the end of the second. I will add another video showing other parts I mentioned in Verse 2.
This is another walk through of the second verse with all of the separate parts. Please watch and practice the whole video no matter what part you are in.
Final section!! There is only a tiny bit that is brand new, but the staging can be tricky. Learn the movements, we'll figure out the rest in person.
