Welcome to Deer Park and the Year of Land! We are very excited to get started on a great third grade year of learning. We believe in teaching students the skills and strategies necessary to be self-reliant, responsible, and confident in order to be successful in school and life. We have a lot to cover this year in a fairly quick pace, so it is extremely important for your child to be in school every day and practice good study habits.
We feel strongly that we need to work together throughout the year to help your child be the best he/she can be, especially since third grade is such a big transitional year for many students. We will be meeting after the first week or two of school for a report on behavior, work habits, and adjustments to third grade expectations. The students are expected to share their learning with you daily. This is a great time to collaborate strategies that will help your child succeed. Graded papers will be sent home each week in a folder. Students will return the folders on the next school day. Student work earning a letter grade of D or F will require a parent signature.
Homework will be given to the students each Monday. Students will have homework Monday-Thursday. Feel free to write a note, call, or e-mail if you have any questions. You can message the teacher privately via email and the teacher can respond to you privately.
We will spend the first several weeks of school reviewing and learning new skills, getting to know each other, adjusting to new routines, and assessing academic levels. Our first units of study will focus on reading comprehension strategies, civics (rules, laws, and citizenship), and place value in math.
We look forward to working with you and your child and building a love of learning that will last a lifetime!
