Re-read this part of the framework: CONSEQUENCES ACCUMULATE ACROSS ALL CLASSES AND SCHOOL YEARS.
The assignment will receive an automatic zero.
The teacher will communicate with the student and email the parent/guardian, counselor, and Assistant Principal.
The teacher will document the incident on the discipline tab of Aeries and assign an N or U for citizenship on the next report card.
The student will serve a detention, make up the work as the teacher instructs, and complete an online academic integrity course.
The assignment will receive an irredeemable zero.
The teacher will call a meeting with the student, parent/guardian, counselor, and Assistant Principal.
The teacher will document the incident on the discipline tab of Aeries and assign an N or U for citizenship on the next report card.
The student will serve a detention and be ineligible for their next athletic contest, extracurricular event, field trip, etc.
The Assistant Principal will lead the discussion; the goal is to take a deep dive into the student's repeated violations in an effort to ensure no future violations occur. The meeting is an opportunity to come to a satisfactory sense of closure and document it with a behavior contract (or in another reasonable form). Elements of the agreement may include, but are not limited to, any of the following:
If and how the student will complete the assignment, do a reflective activity, and/or serve detention(s),
Precisely what extracurriculars, field trips, and school events the student will miss; what privileges will be revoked in the event of another violation,
Terms of suspension for future violations,
An acknowledgement of the value of honesty, integrity, ethics, and responsibility in the student's chosen career field or academic path.
The Assistant Principal will also contact any relevant extracurricular program lead regarding ineligibility.
The assignment will receive an irredeemable zero.
The teacher will email the Assistant Principal and counselor, document the incident on the discipline tab of Aeries, and assign an N or U for citizenship on the next report card.
The Assistant Principal will contact the student and parent/guardian and enact the agreed-upon consequences from the previous meeting.
Additional consequences may be added to the behavior contract, at the discretion of school administration.
Letters of recommendation for college applications and scholarships are provided at the discretion of the writer.
Teachers may be unwilling to write a letter for a student with a history of Academic Integrity Violations.
If you ask a classmate to copy their work, you put them in a really awkward position. Even if you get away with the cheating, you are telling that person that their reputation is worth less to you than a few points on a school assignment. Even if you don't get caught, the students who are doing the work you copy are likely to resent you.
In certain cases, a teacher might report a non-violation so that there is documentation on the record:
Unintentional academic dishonesty (legitimate misunderstanding)
Unclear or ambiguous case
