what does it mean to be an artist to me?
When I think of what art means to me, I imagine an emotionally driven response to your imagination and surroundings. An artist is simply someone who can translate their experiences into something other people can interpret, regardless of the artistic medium. The key is self expression; all it takes is the desire to convey a thought. This means that artists’ range from all types of people; those who wish to push their political beliefs to someone who only wants to draw a cute cat for the fun of it. Art is also a form of communication for the underrepresented and the misunderstood. It lends a silent hand to those in pain and creates a display for all types of emotion. Once a work has been completed, the process and product should elicit a reaction from the viewer. This reaction is what helps define what's good and what’s great in the art world. Provocative artists will always go down in history for breaking the social norm and fighting the system, whereas quiet artists will always be appreciated for their products of beauty. Regardless, being an artist is all about the expression of the heart, soul, and mind and will forever continue to produce a safe place among inspired people.
