Green Family
I have been in the field of education for most of my life. Both of my parents were teachers and have several family members who were also educators. As a career I can’t imagine anywhere else I would rather be!
My formal education includes a B.A. in Psychology and Human Development, a Masters of Arts Degree in Education, and an administrative credential. My informal education has been acquired each day in the classroom. I learn so much from my students and every year is a new learning experience; simply because each group of students are unique.
Professionally, besides teaching elementary school, I have been an adjunct professor at Orange Coast College. I taught child development classes for the Early Childhood program. Most of the students in this program were early education teachers or future teachers. I have also had the opportunity of teaching for the Graduate Education program at Vanguard University. I have taught M.A. students SPSS (statistical data analysis software) and Curriculum Design. Although I am really busy, I enjoy mentoring adult learners. However, my favorite students are children!
Historically, I started working for NMUSD in 1999 as the founding Preschool Director. I started this program from conception to a reality, which was extremely challenging and very rewarding. After several years as an administrator, I decided it was time for me to return to the classroom. I absolutely love teaching!
I spend most of my free time hanging out with my husband Bob. We enjoy attending Smooth Jazz concerts, skiing, and going to the beach. We have three children and three delight grandchildren. Our children all attended NMUSD schools so I know personally what wonderful schools we have in this district. Besides that I spend a lot of time preparing my classroom, correcting papers and preparing daily lessons for my beloved third graders.
This is my eighth year teaching at Harbor View School and I love it here! I became part of the HV teaching staff in 2012 when I taught a 2/3 combo class. The very next year I began an exciting six year adventure teaching 6th grade. This year I am really looking forward to coming back to one of my favorite things: teaching Third Grade!
Prior to my assignments here at Harbor View, I was a teacher at Andersen Elementary where I taught Kindergarten, a 2/3 combo class, and 6th Grade. I was a Science teacher, Reading Intervention Specialist, and after-school Spanish teacher. Before coming to NMUSD, I taught bilingual education and GATE for the Santa Ana Unified School District.
My formal education includes a BA in Journalism/Public Relations and a minor in Spanish from the University of Southern California. I completed my teaching credential at UC Irvine.
I have a wonderful family including two grown children. Both of my kids attended Harbor View School and Corona del Mar High School. My son, George, is currently studying at the Viterbi School of Engineering at USC. My daughter, Caleigh, graduated from Annenberg Journalism at USC in 2018. My journey as a parent and an educator inform my educational practices every day.
I have a wonderful husband, George, who deserves an award for always stepping up to help get my classroom ready for my students!
I really love dogs and I have been known to be a little "dog crazy!". I have two rescue doggies: Olive, a Chiweenie, and Gracie, a Maltipoo.
In my free time, I like going to the beach, hiking, doing yoga, reading (especially on Audible), writing, taking photos, and camping.
Mr. Christman
According to Martin Luther King, Jr., “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”
My education began as a child of an educator and architect and continued as a student in Orange Unified School District. After graduating from Villa Park High School, I chose to move south to earn a Bachelor's Degree and Teaching Credential from Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego. Later, I earned a Master's Degree from Concordia University Irvine.
My career began in Downey Unified School District and continued in Honduras, Central America. For the past 14 years, I've taught grades K-5 in Newport-Mesa Unified School District. In addition to teaching students, I've served in various leadership roles as well as mentored beginning teachers (5) and student teachers (15). Twice I've been selected as the school site Teacher of the Year (2008, K/1 combo and 2018, 4th Grade) and both times selected as one of the Top 5 Elementary Teachers in N-MUSD.
My free time involves quite a bit of intensive and critical thinking, thanks to a life in education. Although I do find time to relax with family, friends, or on my own, it's quite common for me to be thinking (in my free time) of ways to nurture the function of education within my classroom.
My hope for your child this year is that s/he will continue to develop his/her love for learning, ultimately combining intelligence with character, which, according to MLK, Jr., is the goal of true education.
