Welcome to our group! Dr. Deep Choudhuri joined New Mexico Tech in 2019 and serves as an Associate Professor of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering. He earned his B.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (2002) and his Ph.D. from Michigan State University (2009), both in Materials Science and Engineering.
Our research lies at the intersection of phase transitions, chemical physics, defect structures, micromechanics, and physics-informed AI/ML. We are deeply passionate about pushing the frontiers of computational techniques to probe underlying material mechanisms. While our core expertise includes examining phase transformations and defect structures in aluminum, magnesium, titanium, and high-entropy alloys, our group has recently expanded into exploring the chemistry and physics of hybrid organic-inorganic coordination materials like metal-organic frameworks (MOFs).
Dr. Choudhuri is a recipient of the prestigious NSF CAREER Award (DMR CMMT). Our research efforts are proudly supported by funding from several agencies, including the NSF (CMMT and MRI programs), ACS-PRF, ARL, and Sandia National Laboratory.
Jonah is a Senior at the Materials department. He is focussing on understanding negative thermal expansion in ceramic-materials by using ab initio molecular dynamics. (ACS/Sandia-funded)
