Graduate Student & Postdoctoral Researcher Opportunities

Geophysical Sensing • Ground Control • Rock Characterization • Sensor Development

We are seeking motivated graduate students (M.S./Ph.D.) and postdoctoral researchers to join our interdisciplinary research activities at New Mexico Tech (NMT) in advanced sensing, geophysics, and mining engineering.

Research opportunities are available in the following areas:

• Sensor and Electronics Development: ultrasonic and piezoelectric sensing, embedded electronics, data acquisition systems, and intelligent sensing platforms.

• Geophysical Sensing: seismic and ultrasonic methods, distributed sensing, subsurface imaging, signal processing, and sensor-data integration.

• Mining & Ground Control: rock mechanics, ground stability, mine monitoring, geotechnical characterization, and underground safety.

• Mineral Exploration: geophysical exploration, subsurface characterization, geological interpretation, and sensing technologies for mineral-resource applications.

• Rock Characterization: laboratory and field-scale characterization, ultrasonic/seismic imaging, fracture detection, and rock-mass monitoring.

Applicants with backgrounds in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Geophysics, Mining/Mineral Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or closely related disciplines are encouraged to apply. Experience with experimental research, instrumentation, programming, signal processing, numerical modeling, or machine learning is desirable.

Research projects involve a combination of sensor development, laboratory experimentation, field measurements, geophysical imaging, data analytics, and AI-enabled monitoring, with opportunities to collaborate across engineering and geoscience disciplines.
