Welcome to the Fourth Grade! This website is a resource to help you stay updated on weekly announcements, homework assignments, important links, upcoming dates & events, and details about the amazing things we are doing in the classroom. Please check back regularly for updates. I look forward to having a wonderful school year with your child.
As we approach the final weeks of the school year, I wanted to reflect on the incredible journey we've had together. I am so proud of your child's resilience, growth, and achievements throughout this year. It's truly remarkable how much your child has grown both academically and socially. They are ready (and excited) to take on their new adventure as middle school students!!
June 2024 Curriculum Update:
In Math, we have begun our unit on Geometry. In this unit, student will be able to identify and draw points, lines, line segments, rays, angles (right, acute, obtuse), and perpendicular and parallel lines. They will also be able to identify the similarities and differences among two-dimensional figures and identify and classify angles.
In ELA, we have begun Module 3- The American Revolution. This unit focuses on two guiding questions:
How did the American Revolution, and the events leading up to it, affect the people in the American colonies?
How does a person’s perspective influence his or her opinion?
Students will be reading to build background knowledge on the events leading up to the Revolutionary War, as well as the varying perspectives of the colonists, Native Americans, and African Americans.
We just finished reading the book "Divided Loyalties" which is a story about the Barton family during the American Revolution. The family must decide whether they should support the Patriot cause or the Loyalist cause- these opposing views threaten to tear the family apart.
Students learned about important events that shaped American history and gained an understanding of how families struggled to make the right decisions during the 1770's.
Since this book was written as a Reader's Theater, we had a lot of fun practicing and performing the play as a whole class.
In Science, we have begun our last unit of study about ENERGY! We have been talking about how energy can be transferred from place to place by sound, light, heat and electrical currents. For the last few weeks of school, students will be visiting 10 different science stations to help them deepen their understanding of energy, transfer of energy and forces.
In Social Studies, students are continuing to learn about early European explorers. Specifically, they are learning about the reasons for exploration, the European countries that participated, and the territories that were acquired. After, students will learn about successes and failures of some famous European explorers.
"Every child deserves a champion- an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be."
