NMMATYC 2024
NMMATYC will host its 36th annual conference at
El Paso Community College.
The conference will be on Friday & Saturday,
April 5th & 6th, 2024 in El Paso, TX.
The conference will consist of an amazing set of keynote and special guest speakers.

Keynote Speaker:
Dr. James Tanton
Dr. James Tanton
James Stuart Tanton is a mathematician and math educator. He is a winner of the Kidder Faculty Prize for his teaching at The St. Mark’s Math Institute, scholar at the Mathematical Association of America,[1] author of over ten books on mathematics, curriculum, and education, and creator of videos on mathematics on YouTube. As of February 2020 his approximately 190 videos had earned over 800,000 views.
Luncheon Keynote Speaker:
Dr. Lawrence Lesser
Dr. Lawrence Lesser
Professor Lesser (hey, that rhymes!) is a UTEP statistics/mathematics education researcher who has won state and national awards (e.g., the 2021 Waller Distinguished Teaching Career Award from the American Statistical Association). He also is an award-winning songwriter (e.g., Winner and 4-time Finalist in the New Mexico Music Awards) and his STEM songs have won national awards (e.g., winner in the National Museum of Mathematics’ “Pi Day of the Century” contest), helped land NSF grants (e.g., https://www.causeweb.org/smiles/), and yielded plenary performances at regional and national STEM conferences (e.g., MAA MathFest, USCOTS, NCTM, etc.). Special Guest Speaker via Zoom:
Dr. Ken Ono
Dr. Ken Ono
Dr. Ken Ono is a mathematician who specializes in number theory, especially in integer partitions, modular forms, umbral moonshine, the Riemann Hypothesis and the fields of interest to Srinivasa Ramanujan. He is the STEM Advisor to the Provost and the Marvin Rosenblum Professor of Mathematics at the University of Virginia.
Special Guest Speaker:
George Soliman
George Soliman
George is currently in his 8th year at Raritan Valley Community College. Prior to that, he was an adjunct mathematics instructor at two other community colleges in NJ, as well as a part-time mathematics lecturer at Rutgers University and DeVry University. Outside of the classroom, he is very actively involved in his church. He is also a huge sports fan, particularly of his New York Jets.
