A WORD WITH THE COMMUNITIES LOSING THEIR LANGUAGES
Members of the public are requested to cooperate and help in making this government funded initiative a success. Communities whose languages are endangered may please contact us for documenting their languages, and any other assistance in this regard that our team can provide. We plan to help communities preserve their languages by primarily doing the following steps:
1. Developing the grammar.
2. Developing the dictionary of the language, and
3. Recording samples of their endangered languages and this way saving them for the posterity
Furthermore, we shall strive to assist such communities in other ways, e.g.:
1. Helping them to develop a writing system/script for their language.
2. Prepare a primer.
3. Writing an account of the communities’ way of life and documenting their culture by recording their songs, and music traditions in suitable media.
4. By helping to spread awareness about the existing situation, and the needs of such communities.
Needless to say that all this is possible only with the cooperation of the concerned community members.
If your language is endangered you may contact us even to review the status of your language. A list of endangered languages can be found on the link provided here of the UNESCO atlas of endangered languages that will help you know more about the status of your language.
