As of the date of this update, November 20, 2020, the Northern Lehigh School District operates under a HYBRID model. Information on the HYBRID model can be found below. All information pertaining to a FULLY VIRTUAL model is posted here as a means of sharing our school's plan to operate in a 100% virtual/online environment should that decision be made.
Beginning December 1, 2020, all middle- and high-school teachers will live-stream classroom instruction. Links will be shared with students via their virtual classrooms. Middle school teachers will use Google Classroom and Google Meet. High School teachers will use either CANVAS or Google Classroom for learning materials/assessments and Google Meet or Zoom for live-streaming. Live-streaming will be conducted in BOTH the hybrid and fully virtual models beginning December 1, 2020. Students are expected to view the live-streamed classes in both the hybrid and virtual models.
On days of virtual learning, middle school students will follow their regular schedule as though they were physically present in school. The times will not change.
Note: Your child may experience a slight modification in his or her schedule due to shared staff between the middle- and high-schools. This will be communicated and explained directly.

Under the HYBRID model, students will follow their normal, everyday schedule times. All classes will be live-streamed so that students can participate from home.
7:10 - 7:50 AM - Students should work on XELLO/Career Readiness assignments, USA Test Prep for Keystone Exams, and/or Essential Skills Lesson, if applicable.

The Wednesday schedule has been modified in both and middle school and high school to provide students with more individualized support and to provide teachers with additional professional development in virtual learning.

High School:
8:00 - 11:50 - Teacher "Office Hours" for student help and support. Teachers MAY REQUIRE a student attends a virtual session in order to improve grades. Also, school counselors will be available to help students with Xello and/or USA Test Prep assignments.

All students are expected to engage in EACH class Monday through Friday. Student are expected to attend all live-streamed classes.
Student MUST keep cameras ON during classroom instruction unless directed otherwise by the classroom teacher. The PA Department of Education requires evidence of engagement for attendance tracking; therefore, student must be able to prove that they attended each class.
Teachers will conduct virtual learning through CANVAS or Google Classroom. Live-streaming will be conducted through Google Meet or Zoom. Teachers will provide links.
School rules are in effect during virtual learning just as they are during normal school days. This includes inappropriate language, disruptions, technology usage, and dress code.
Student are expected to make meaningful contributions to the class--ask questions, seek input, and make positive impact.
All Pennsylvania compulsory attendance laws and regulations are in effect under the virtual learning model.
Please NOTE: Effective December 1, 2020, it is expected that all middle- and high-school students attend live-streamed classes. Cameras must be turned on or attendance will not be recorded. Failure to attend a live-streamed class may result in an absence being placed on your record. These absences may be considered unlawful. If you miss a live-streamed class, please contact your teacher immediately with a valid excuse and complete an alternate assignment for attendance credit. Frequent absences from live-streamed classes may result in truancy actions.

Monday & Tuesday:
Students with Last Names A-L will have IN PERSON instruction.
Students with Last Names M-Z will have VIRTUAL learning.
Virtual students (M-Z) must complete the daily assignment in order to earn attendance credit.
Wednesday:
All students will have VIRTUAL learning. Be sure to complete the daily assignment for attendance credit.
Thursday & Friday:
Students with Last Names A-L will have VIRTUAL learning.
Virtual students (A-L) must complete the daily assignment in order to earn attendance credit.
Students with Last Names M-Z will have IN PERSON instruction.
Virtual Classrooms: All teachers will develop and maintain a virtual learning classroom. Teachers at the middle school will use Google Classroom, and teachers at the high school will use either Google Classroom or CANVAS. All learning materials--notes, videos, handouts, assessments, and the like--will be made available in the virtual classroom. Each virtual classroom will be updated on the Friday prior to the next instructional week so that families and students know what learning activities are forthcoming.
In-person Instruction: In-person instructional times will be used to teach, re-teach, enrich, and/or facilitate that which is posted virtually. Teachers will instruct students in key concepts so that learning across both the traditional and virtual settings continues.

Student Attendance is required each day, Monday through Friday, in the hybrid schedule. Truancy measures, as required by PA school code, will be enforced. In order to earn attendance credit for a virtual school day/class, a student must show engagement with the learning resources. Each student will be required to complete a short, daily assignment no later than 9PM.

All students will be scored as was historically done--total points with percentages and letter grades. The 2020-2021 school year will NOT use a pass/fail system.
Students will be expected to complete a daily assignment on each virtual learning day. The format of these daily assignments will vary by teacher. Please ensure this is done each day as student attendance is tied to its completion. Teachers will add other assessments as needed.

Northern Lehigh's hybrid model will be in effect at least until November 4, 2020, unless data or government order requires a shift to a fully online model.
Virtual Wednesdays: Each Wednesday morning, middle and high school teachers will be available for one-on-one tutoring, small group learning, and instructional reinforcement/reteaching. Time may be available on Wednesday afternoons depending on the teacher's training schedule and faculty meetings. Student and/or parents/guardians are encouraged to contact the teacher directly with questions.
Middle School Team Time (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday): One teacher from your child's team will be available for support. Grade-level, Core Area Teachers -- Eighth grade: 8:30 - 9:00 AM and 9:20 - 9:50 AM; Seventh Grade: 10:15 - 10:45 AM and 11:00 - 11:30 AM. Special Subject Teachers -- 12:30 - 1:00 PM and 1:15 - 1:45PM. Students are able to contact these teachers for facilitation of any classroom content.
High School Contact (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday): Each teacher will have a 40-minute period to be available for students to set up help sessions. These times vary by teacher. Students and/or parents/guardians should contact individual teachers for specific times and to set up an appointment.
Students in the 100% Virtual Option: The same options outlined above will apply to these students.
Yes. All student supports will be in place as outlined in the Student-Parent handbooks. Please note: virtual or phone conferencing will be used whenever possible in order to comply with state safety guidelines.
The Student Assistance Program (SAP), Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and other Tier 1-3 supports will be active.
The start and end times will be adjusted slightly to better facilitate student transportation. The middle school will open to students at 7:10 AM each morning. The high school will open at 7:05 AM. Buses will begin student drop off for both buildings at 7:10 AM. Drop offs will be staggered from that point so that large groups of students do not leave the buses at the same time. Students will not be marked late for attendance purposes until the end of homeroom; however, please note that all students should report to homeroom as quickly as possible in order to prepare for the day.
Yes. Any student having an IEP will have the option to report to school for in-person instruction four days per week--Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Parents/Guardians should contact their child's case manager for more specific information.
