How to catalogue with Insignia

New Book Prep

Stamping, Labelling and Taping - This is how it is done at MDJH - A junior high school. Different schools will have different methods but this is a good place for a Junior High or High School to start.

Dewey/Cataloging Help

OCLC - Will help you find the most frequent Dewey classification. Great to help find subject headings as well. Search by ISBN, Author, Title.

Library Thing - If you are doing original cataloging because you can't find the book anywhere, this web site is a great help for helping you pick a Dewey number yourself. It helped me understand the Dewey system much better. The top line is the 100s headings and the 000s are selected by default. So the second line is the 10s for the 000s... pick the 100s you want, and the proper 10s line will show up, pick the 10s you want and the 1s line will show up. Pick the 1s you want and the .1s will show up. Make sense?

Dewey Summaries - An introductory Dewey document that explains Dewey and gives you general summaries.

Good Reads - A database of book summaries, ratings, reviews and books suggestions - no need to create an account. This is where to get book covers to upload into Insignia as well as most the popular genres, if that is how you arrange your books. Great place to get other info like book suggestions, other books in the same series, or books by the same author.

Library of Congress - You can find Dewey numbers, subject headings. Search by title, ISBN, Author.
