LEARN Introduction and Rationale
LEARN is a literacy and numeracy program for immigrant students who have had little or no prior schooling. The course is based on grades K-6 language art and math outcomes and aims to build literacy skills to a transitional level. Due to gaps in formal education, they do not have the literacy and/or numeracy skills to integrate into an age appropriate grade . These students may be EAL students or may speak English as their mother tongue.
Goals of LEARN:
• To prepare students with the literacy and numeracy skills to be able to integrate successfully into an age appropriate grade or graduate.
• To prepare students with the literacy and numeracy skills needed for their day-to-day lives.
