Class Time

Please come to class prepared with any necessary supplies needed for class. (Textbooks, binders, exercise books, loose leaf, pencils, eraser and sharpener.)

Most units in Language Arts will require that you have an independent novel with you during each class. These novels are to be read both in class and at home.

Cell Phones

Cell phones are not permitted to be used during the school day and must be stored in your bookbag on silent mode.

Homework/Tests/Assignments

Homework in Language Arts is normally only assigned when students are asked to complete work assigned in class. From time to time, there will be tests and/or assignments that will need to worked on or studied for at home. Please make sure you do not leave any studying or work for assignments until the night before they are due!

VJH's Evaluation Policy

Make sure to pay particular attention to the section on LATE ASSIGNMENTS:

• Assignments late by 1 school day will result in a 10% deduction to the final mark earned

• Assignments late by 2 school days will result in a 15% deduction to the final mark earned

• Assignments late by 3 school days will result in a 20% deduction to the final mark earned

• A zero will remain in PowerSchool until the assignment is submitted.

• A student with 3 incidences of late/missed assignments will be referred to the administration for an intervention plan.

Missed Classes

If you miss class for any reason, and you know ahead of time, please let me know before your absence.

It is your responsibility to catch up and complete all classwork, homework and assignments.

If you do miss a class, please be sure to:

1. Ask a classmate for any work or notes you may have missed

2. Check this website and the school's homework page for missed work

3. Email me or come see me to have a chat about any important material you missed during your absence
