Thursday, 22nd ~ Formula quiz #2 tomorrow:  Memorize the first 8 formulas (area & perimeter of a square and rectangle, plus 4 formulas for circles - diameter, radius, and two formulas for circumference).  Today was a bit of a catch-up day. These are the questions that should now be completed on both unit 4 boooklets:

NOTES BOOKLET ~ page 3 (#s 1,3,5,7,9),  page 4 (#s 1,3,5,7,9), page 5, page 6 (all 7 boxes should be filled in with the first 8 formulas)

WORK BOOKLET ~ page 78 #1, page 80 - 81 #s 1 - 6, page 82 - 83 #s 1 - 6

Wednesday, 21st ~ Today we continues with Section 4.2. We corrected work from yesterday.  Then we introduced a new formula for diameter - see NOTES BOOKLET page 12 for formulas and examples. In the WORK BOOKLET #s 4 & 5 were assigned on page 83.

IMPORTANT ~ This week's FORMULA QUIZ will be on Friday.  Memorize the first 8 formulas (area & perimeter of a square and rectangle, plus 4 formulas for circles - diameter, radius, and two formulas for circumference). Students have been asked to write the formulas in the  chart on page 6 & 7 of the NOTES BOOKLET. You can also find them posted in the google classroom.

Monday, 19th ~ PD - no classes for students

Week of February 12th - 16th

If you were not here today to get the new booklet, don't worry! You can still finish the work....you can find the booklet in your google classroom. Just print the pages you need and I'll give you the whole booklet on Monday :)

Formula quiz # 2 will be Friday, Feb. 23rd - so far you will need to know the two formulas for squares and rectangles (area and perimeter), plus the formulas for radius and diameter.  And most likely the two different formulas for circumference.   Remember - if you didn't do well in your first formula quiz, not to worry! That mark will be replaced with quiz mark  # 2.  Practice WRITING THEM DOWN as part of your study.

Don't forget that Monday is a PD DAY - no classes for students :)

Enjoy your weekend!!

Wednesday & Thursday, 14th & 15th ~ Snow days

Tuesday, 13th ~ Today in the UNIT 4 NOTES BOOKLET, we corrected page 3. We also completed  and corrected pages 4 & 5. If you didn't complete all of this, then please have it finished for next class. We also watched a couple of videos in the google classroom on area and perimeter of a square and rectangle.

Monday, 12th ~ Today we started Unit 4 (Circles and Area). We started by reviewing area and perimeter of a square and rectangle, which has been discussed in previous grades. In this unit we will be introducing the idea of formulas and how they are used. Students will need to MEMORIZE all formulas. By the end of the unit students will be responsible for knowing 13 formulas. I have asked students to memorize the formulas each week, as they are introduced.  Every Friday, students will have a formula quiz. These marks will be entered in PowerSchool. We will start with a practice quiz this Friday, February 16th. For this quiz students will need to know 4 formulas - area and perimeter of a square and rectangle.

Students received the Unit 4 NOTES BOOKLET today. These questions were assigned....page 3 #s 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 (odd #s only). All steps must be shown - follow question #1 as an example (I went through this in class so students should have it written in) - always start with the formula and end with the final answer giving the unit of measure (units squared only for area, not perimeter.
