About Me.....
This is my third year of being lucky enough to teach such a wonderful group of students at Gander Collegiate. I have been an IRT for 6 years and I love my job! I am originally from the East Coast but moved to Central for my teaching career. I have taught on the South Coast, in the New World Island area and I have been in Gander for the last 3 years.
This year, I have the amazing opportunity to teach all of the awesome students in our pervasive needs unit. I teach life skills, math skills and language arts. I use a variety of teaching methods to help engage my students. Listed below are just a few of the things we will be doing this year, and how learning will take place in my classroom. Please contact me by e-mail at kaylabourne@nlesd.ca if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to everything this school year has to offer!
Lots of reading and exploring books!
We will be learning many math techniques and strategies through fun activities and games!
Computer time to practice our typing skills, online research, and educational games!
We will be practicing our reading techniques and phonological skills!
It's important that students know when they need a break! I teach according to my students individual strengths and needs.
We will all share ideas and contribute to classroom discussions.
We will be participating in physical activities in our gymnasium and outside when the weather permits.
Learning and practicing our life skills for everyday use such as health, chores at home, important aspects of our environment, such as signs and regulations, and learning more about ourselves and others!
