Things to keep in mind when reading at home:

*Pick a book you both enjoy.

*Discuss the cover picture before you begin reading.

*Stop and check for understanding once or twice and ask questions that begin with “who” or “what.”

*Ask your child to talk about what they know about the story and retell the story, the more practice they get, the easier this becomes.

*Have lots of conversations about what happened in the book.
